IN THE BEGINNING
In 1994 when Garden Kids founder, Cindy Swanson, sewed party hats for her sons to wear for a birthday, people quickly took notice and asked where they could buy them. Later, when she created overalls decorated with garden-themed patches, it was another fashion hit. This was the beginning of Garden Kids.
Being a mom and knowing what organic means to the health of kids (and the world), making the choice to work with cottons grown with our ecosystem in mind just made sense. Adding her love of fabrics and a way with words, Cindy was able to blend her creative skills into sweet, organic designs that kids (and parents) love.
WHY CHANGE A GOOD THING?
After twelve very busy and creative years, Cindy decided to sell Garden Kids in order to devote more time to family and other pursuits. We, the new owners, were customers of Garden Kids for several years for our own son. As long-time supporters of the green movement, we appreciated the Garden Kids commitment to organic clothing. Buying the company was a natural fit for us. All of the qualities we admired as customers will remain: super-soft, cozy organic fabrics, fun, fresh designs, all U.S.A. made and fair-wage, of course. And still made in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon.
Just as it was important to us to seek the healthiest alternatives for our son, we know that other conscientious, concerned families are on their own similar quest. So enjoy our site.
